Fast pyrolysis is a process in which organic materials are rapidly heated in the absence of air/oxygen. The main product is pyrolysis liquid. This liquid can be combusted to generate renewable electricity, and in the future possibly valuable chemicals and fuels. The production of pyrolysis liquid is an efficient method to utilize biomass as renewable resource for the production of energy, chemicals and/or materials. Raw biomass is often available in remote locations in relatively limited quantities. ia a fast pyrolysis process, a liquid is produced which improves most of these properties. In addition, via fast pyrolysis different biomass resources can be converted in a much more uniform product.
